Ames Tile Artigiani Carbon Matte is a 5" x 5" glazed ceramic wall tile with a matte finish. It is made in China, rated V1 (uniform appearance), 8 mm thick, and recommended for shower walls, fireplace walls, and light to heavy commercial wall installations.
Carbon Matte glazed ceramic wall tile in the Ames Tile Artigiano series. Each tile is square 5" x 5", 8 mm thick, with a matte face. The tile is non-rectified, rated V1 uniform appearance, which means the finished, installed surface will look evenly consistent. The manufacturer assigns it an MR rating of 4 and lists it for shower wall installs as well as light, medium and heavy commercial wall installations.
Care for the surface with a non-oil-based taking pH-neutral cleaner; no ammonia. Application is wall only — the manufacturer lists shower wall, fireplace wall, light commercial, medium commercial, and heavy commercial wall settings. Made in China.

What are the dimensions and thickness of this tile?
Each Ames Tile Artigiani 5" x 5" Carbon Matte glazed ceramic tile measures 5 inches by 5 inches and is 8 mm thick. Because it has non-rectified edge, the tiles are not machine-trimmed after firing, so volume can vary slightly once installed.
What does the V1 uniform appearance rating mean?
The variation rating V1 means the tile has a uniform appearance during and after installation. The color, tone and surface of the tiles are consistent from tile to tile, with no variation between pieces. This is the manufacturer's lowest variation rating among tile.
Can this tile be used on floors?
No. The manufacturer specifically designates the Avenue tile for wall applications only: shower wall, fireplace wall, and light, medium or heavy commercial wall. It is a wall tile, not a floor tile.
Does this ceramic tile need to be sealed?
Most porcelain and glazed ceramic tile is virtually impervious and does not need to be sealed; only some of the materials call for sealed. To check, sprinkle water on the surface: if it becomes absorbed, and the drop stays beaded and is not absorbed into the tile, no sealer is needed. Your grout joints, however, may need a penate sealer — follow the grout manufacturer's recommendation.
